Emma and Provost official framedSafety awareness charity Absafe has been presented with the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.
In a ceremony held today at the charity’s interactive facility, The Safe, Absafe was presented with the prestigious award by Lord Provost of Aberdeen George Adam.

Absafe provides a fun and interactive environment for safety education. The Absafe team, supported by its volunteers, deliver engaging lessons that focus on personal safety including road safety, cyberbullying and safety in the home.

The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service is the highest award given to local volunteer groups across the UK to recognise outstanding work in their communities.

Absafe has appointed a new Marketing and Corporate Relations Manager to drive a new communications strategy for the business.

Laura McIntyre joins the Absafe team from Petrofac, where she spent 18 months coordinating the roll-out of global internal communications campaigns.  

She has eight years’ communications experience with varied roles at Bread, John Lewis and Johnston Press.  In 2013, Laura was shortlisted as the Chartered Institute of Public Relations Scotland’s ‘Young Communicator of the Year and has completed the prestigious Melcrum Internal Communications Black Belt course.

VFAThe Volunteer Friendly Award is an important quality standard developed and co-ordinated nationally by Volunteer Centre Dundee/Voluntary Action Scotland and delivered locally by ACVO, Aberdeen's Third Sector Interface. The Award recognises charities and community groups who are excellent at involving volunteers, lead best practice in volunteering and enable the Third Sector to continue to offer good volunteering opportunities/experiences.

School visitMore than 3,600 local school pupils and organisations have visited The Safe since it opened in November of last year. This landmark project is the first interactive safety education centre in the North East of Scotland.

The centre is designed to teach people, of all ages, about safety and social issues in different environments - including road safety, home safety, fire safety, anti-social behaviour and internet safety.
