We’ve always known the work we do is special.
We’re proud that we make a tangible difference to the community and as a result, save lives.
We wouldn’t be able to deliver our education sessions without our dedicated volunteers. Their enthusiasm and dedication is exemplary, and we were delighted when we were nominated for a Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, the organisational equivalent of an MBE.
In the spring of 2015, we were notified that a written application with supporting endorsements was submitted on our behalf. We were then visited by members of the Lord Lieutenant’s office, who interviewed the Absafe team and volunteers who then reported back to the Home Office with their recommendation. We were officially informed we were successful in June 2016.In August 2016, we were officially presented with our prestigious award by the Lord Provost, in an event attended by the Absafe team, our corporate sponsors and very special volunteers.
“Volunteers at Absafe help make Aberdeen a safer place to live and improve community safety and wellbeing across communities. The educational experiences provided through Absafe have been successful in teaching people how to avoid danger and make confident, safe decisions. The work of volunteers in this respect has reduced the risk of accidents and literally saved lives.“ Mike Melvin, Co-ordinator at Aberdeen Council of Voluntary Organisations (ACVO)
